Breakfast time can be challenging in our increasingly busy lives for everyone. As a carer do you find yourself ensuring your loved ones eat well whilst skipping breakfast yourself? By eating a healthy breakfast you take time to acknowledge that you are important too. As we always say, how can you look after someone if you are not taking care of yourself?
Here are our favourite healthy breakfasts so that you can try something new and start your day the right way.
1. Bircher Muesli courtesy of the British Heart Foundation
2. Breakfast Crostini from Diabetes UK
3. Museli Muffins from MacMillan
4. Food Smart Full English from Change4Life
5. Apple Pie Porridge from NHS Choices
6. Salmon scrambled eggs from British Egg Recipes
7. Fresh fruit bowl from Virgin Active
You have got to admit these are very tasty ways to break your fast. We know time is tight but you could set the alarm for an earlier time or prepare breakfast the night before.
If you are concerned that eating breakfast will mean you pile on the pounds all the evidence shows this is not the case. A good breakfast provides essential nutrients and prevents you snacking during the morning.
We also want to highlight an initiative from Carers Trust. They are encouraging people to hold a Britain’s Best Breakfast event to help them raise awareness and funds to support the UK’s unpaid carers. The breakfast can be held at home, work or school. You could cook up a storm or grab something easy from the supermarket. We think it’s a lovely idea to get people together and all in a good cause too.
