Dr Jamie Wilson founded online care service HomeTouch as a result of his experience as a NHS dementia physician, where he saw families struggle to find care for relatives with dementia and those awaiting discharge from hospital.
Jamie’s first job before medical school was as a care assistant where he became aware of the invaluable and often unrewarded work of carers. After a period in Silicon Valley later in his career, he was inspired to create a service marrying the compassion of carers with the convenience of technology that was dedicated to helping older people remain in their own homes.
The HomeTouch team are passionate about helping families finding the right care and offer particular expertise in dementia and post hospital care. HomeTouch is supported by outstanding healthcare innovators like Dr Thom Van Every, founder of the UK’s first online doctor. HomeTouch is funded by organisations including Guys and St Thomas’s Hospital Charity, the UK Government and Nominet Trust (The UK’s leading technology for good funder).
HomeTouch is currently serving hundreds of families across the London region and helping them find the carer of their choice. The service will be rolling out nationally in 2016.
What HomeTouch offer carers
HomeTouch are passionate about building a supportive community for carers, both paid, employed carers and unpaid carers like those benefiting from the Carers Club site. To provide knowledge sharing and training they organise educational events with care and medical experts who can offer specialist expertise, peer support and insights into groundbreaking research and innovation.
HomeTouch joined Carers Club to give the UK’s unpaid family carers access to support and training that would usually be restricted to those working as paid carers. HomeTouch are proud to welcome you to their community and give you free access to the same resources available to paid carers.
You can find out about the latest events here.
If you cannot attend their training sessions in person or if currently they don’t hold an event near you, please don’t worry – they video record all educational sessions and make them available online.
“… I truly enjoyed it and personally learned a lot. Everyone I met was super nice. I believe we could all reach the same goal. You all did a great job with the meeting. Thank you all for a very in formative meeting and hospitality.” Maribel, a carer speaking of the HomeTouch training sessions.
